Rome, 22 January (LaPresse) – Solar and wind power have surpassed fossil fuels in electricity production in the European Union. This is according to the new report by Ember (the global think tank) “European electricity review”. In 2025, wind and solar power “generated more electricity in the EU than fossil fuels for the first time: 30% compared to 29%”. The overview also mentions Italy, which, “hit by gas costs, could benefit from the development of batteries”. “This historic overtaking,” observes the author of the report, Beatrice Petrovich, “shows how quickly the European Union is moving towards an electricity system powered by sun and wind. Just as dependence on fossil fuels contributes to geopolitical instability, the stakes of the transition to clean energy are clearer than ever”.
