Milan, 1 February (LaPresse) – "In five days' time, the Olympic cauldrons for Milan Cortina 2026 will be lit. On 6 February, coinciding with the opening ceremony, for the first time in history, two braziers will burn simultaneously: one in Milan, at the Arco della Pace, and one in Cortina d'Ampezzo, in Piazza Dibona. A symbolic gesture that reflects the widespread spirit of the Games, capable of uniting cities and Alpine territories.‘ This was stated by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in a note. ’The two braziers are the result of a project by Marco Balich with Lida Castelli and Paolo Fantin, carried out in partnership with Fincantieri, and are inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's “Nodes”, a symbol of connection, balance and continuity. Dynamic and sustainable structures, made of aeronautical aluminium, capable of opening and transforming themselves, evoking the natural cycles of day and night, with low acoustic and visual impact solutions. The lighting marks the end of the Olympic Torch Relay, a 63-day journey through 60 cities and 12,000 kilometres along a network of roads, railways and infrastructure that form the physical backbone of the Games. A journey that anticipates what is now coming into effect: a transport system ready to support athletes, delegations and the public at the heart of the Olympic event,“ adds the ministry. 'From 8 February, the Milan cauldron will be at the centre of daily shows open to the public; both will return to burn for the Paralympics as well. The flame is lit, the Games are taking shape,” concludes the MIT.
