Milan, Apr. 22 (LaPresse) – In 2025, the net borrowing of public administrations (-69,381 million euros) amounted to -3.1% of GDP, down by 4.4 billion compared to 2024 (-73,779 million euros, corresponding to -3.4% of GDP). The Notification of net borrowing and public debt of public administrations, according to the Maastricht Treaty – Years 2022/2025, published by Istat, confirms the data already released by the National Statistics Institute. The primary balance (net borrowing excluding interest expenditure) was positive and equal to 0.8% of GDP, improving by 0.3 percentage points compared to 2024. Interest expenditure, which according to current accounting rules does not include the impact of swap operations, was equal to 3.9% of GDP, remaining unchanged compared to 2024.
