Rome, March 21 (LaPresse) – "I had first-stage lung cancer. First stage means they caught it in time, it means that luckily I didn’t have to undergo chemo or radiation, but it also means that I had to have a lobe, a small piece of my lung removed, which, for someone in my profession, isn’t exactly ideal." Samuele Bersani revealed this from the stage of the Arcimboldi Theater in Milan, speaking for the first time about the illness that had forced him to suspend his work to undergo treatment. "It’s a disease that I obviously wouldn’t wish on anyone," he continued, "but after 50, it’s also logical that problems arise that, when you’re younger, you never imagine you’ll have to face. We all think it will happen to someone else, but not to us. We always think we’re immune, like superheroes, to misfortune and serious illness." Addressing the audience, he then said: "I thank you because I received so much support, solidarity, and affection at a time when I had to decide to stop everything to take care of myself." "I didn’t give any interviews about this topic, I preferred to wait until the concerts came to share it directly. That way, I could also help those who are going through a similar period or are afraid to get a preventive check-up," Bersani continued, adding, "We are much stronger than we think, especially when problems are caught early. I am a living example of that. Others before me have faced this problem, and we draw strength from each other when these things happen."
