Milan, 14 May (LaPresse/Ap) – Three years after arriving at the Cannes Film Festival with “Top Gun: Maverick”, Tom Cruise returned to the Croisette on Wednesday with “Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning”. The latest instalment of Christopher McQuarrie's “Mission: Impossible” is the biggest Hollywood hit to land at Cannes this year. And its remarkable impact at the French Riviera festival sparked cries of “Tom! Tom!” up and down the Croisette. After posing for photographers and paralysing much of the activity at the Palais, Cruise joined McQuarrie halfway through the director's masterclass. There was no press conference for the film, so Cruise and company did not have to answer questions from journalists. But Cruise's surprise appearance allowed the 62-year-old star to reflect for a moment on his 30 years with “Mission: Impossible”. When asked if “Final Reckoning” represents his final farewell, he hesitated, calling it ‘the culmination of three decades of work.’ ‘I'd rather people see it and enjoy it,’ Cruise said.
