Venice, October 8 (LaPresse) – The RSU (Workers' Union Representatives) and the workers' unions of Teatro La Fenice have announced a strike on October 17, coinciding with the premiere of Wozzeck, following the appointment of Beatrice Venezi as Music Director of the Orchestra.
"Following the state of agitation declared on September 27 – reads a statement – a meeting was held today with the management of Teatro La Fenice, in the presence of Mayor Luigi Brugnaro. At the start, the RSU reiterated the request to revoke the appointment of Maestro Venezi as Music Director, as decided by the last general assembly. The Mayor proposed to initiate a familiarization process with the newly appointed director, while confirming her appointment. The RSU and the unions declared their willingness to engage in this process only after the prior revocation of the Music Director’s appointment. The RSU, together with the unions, therefore proclaims a strike for Friday, October 17, coinciding with the premiere of Wozzeck. At 6:00 pm, a public assembly will be held at a location to be announced in the coming days, also open to colleagues from other cultural institutions who have expressed solidarity with Teatro La Fenice and the entire community."
