Rome, 11 June (LaPresse) – Last month was the second hottest May on record. This was reported by the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) – implemented by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts on behalf of the European Commission with EU funding – which in its new monthly climate bulletin also mentions an exceptionally dry spring in parts of north-western Europe. It is the first month below a 1.5-degree increase compared to the pre-industrial period, stopping at 1.4 degrees after a consecutive series of 21 months above the threshold indicated in the Paris Agreement as the first target to be achieved (two degrees are considered an extreme point). However, the year from June 2024 to May 2025 still exceeded the 1.5 degree average temperature increase.
