Milan, Feb. 6 (LaPresse) – “Welcoming others, of whatever color, religion, ethnicity and nationality” is a word that should never be lacking in the language of all of us. Life senator Liliana Segre said this at the event commemorating the 81st anniversary of her deportation organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio at the Shoah Memorial in Milan. “I chose it because this word is the extreme opposite of the Nazis' desire to eliminate those who are different, for them, those belonging to peoples and categories considered unworthy of living. Mine is not a simplistic prescription for serious problems such as immigration; it is not a utopian 'let's welcome them all.' It is first and foremost a philosophy of life: don't close yourself off, don't reject a priori, don't be afraid of the other, and never be beguiled by those who speculate on prejudices and invest in hatred,” Segre added, at the evening organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio.
