Vatican City (Vatican), April 29 (LaPresse) – “This morning, the sixth Congregation of cardinals took place, with prayer and meditation by Abbot Ogliari. Then, approximately 20 interventions followed. A total of 183 cardinals were present, including more than 120 electors. Two electors will not participate due to health reasons,” said the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, while meeting with journalists.
“During the congregation, the challenges facing the Church were discussed.” With the announcement of the two absentee electors for the upcoming Conclave, which will begin on May 7, the number of cardinals who will choose the next Pope drops to 133. The quorum also decreases. 88 votes will be required. In response to a question about the quorum, Bruni stated, “I suppose 89 votes will be needed.”
