Vatican City, May 7th (LaPresse) – The first smoke from the Conclave is black. The verdict from the chimney on the roof of the Sistine Chapel arrived at 9 PM, two hours later than expected. Compared to the last Conclave that elected Pope Francis, there was a delay of 1 hour and 20 minutes. In 2013, the first smoke appeared at 7:41 PM, with a delay of 41 minutes. It’s hard to make comparisons given that there are more cardinal electors this time, or to speculate on the reasons for the delay. After the first inconclusive vote, the cardinals will meet again tomorrow morning for two ballots. Two possible times for the smoke: the first at 10:30 AM and the second at 12 PM. The 10:30 AM smoke will only appear if the Pope is elected.
