Milan, 30 May (LaPresse) – The First Criminal Section of the Court of Cassation has referred to the Court of Justice of the European Union the question relating to detention in the CPR in Albania, when the legal status of migrants who have applied for international protection changed. This is what LaPresse has learned from qualified sources. On 8 May, the Court of Cassation upheld the appeal by the Ministry of the Interior against the ruling of the Court of Appeal of Rome, which did not validate the administrative detention of migrants who had, in the meantime, submitted an application for asylum. In that case, the Court of Cassation had effectively equated CPRs in Albania with those in Italy. Now, however, it has referred the case to the European Court of Justice for a preliminary ruling on detention in CPRs in Albania.
