Rome, May 31 (LaPresse) – Four companies were seized and five people reported. This is the outcome of an operation carried out by the Finance Police of the Provincial Command of Brescia, as part of a planned crackdown on undeclared work and labor exploitation. The economic and financial police activities, carried out with the support of personnel from ATS Brescia – Prevention and Safety Service for Work Environments (PSAL), identified 71 foreign workers, of whom 35 were employed under exploitative conditions in the four workshops that were subsequently seized. Specifically, following inspections, it was found that the workers, three of whom were undocumented (illegal immigrants), received wages not in line with national collective agreements and below the poverty threshold defined according to ISTAT 2023 parameters, and lived/worked in degrading and dilapidated housing conditions. Therefore, in agreement with the local judiciary, five individuals were reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Brescia for violation of Article 603-bis of the Penal Code, and the related workshops were subject to urgent preventive seizure. Overall, the inspections uncovered the employment of 17 undeclared workers, 4 irregular workers, and three individuals were reported for violation of Article 10-bis of Legislative Decree 286/1998 (illegal entry and stay in the territory of the State). The urgent seizure, validated by the competent Judge for preliminary investigations, was necessary to prevent the continuation of work activities under degrading conditions and labor exploitation. This statement is issued respecting the rights of the accused (to be presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final and irrevocable sentence) and to guarantee the constitutionally protected right to report.
