Milan, June 8 (LaPresse) – Shortly after rescuing 54 people who had been stranded for days on an abandoned oil platform, this morning the sailing ship Astral, while heading towards Lampedusa with the rescued migrants, intervened to assist another 109 migrants found on a deflated and unseaworthy inflatable boat. This was reported by Open Arms. The 109 people had also departed from Libya, including 10 children and 8 women. It was necessary to rescue 4 people who were in the water. The Open Arms NGO’s sailing ship provided life jackets for initial assistance while waiting for support from the NGO Louise Michel, which took over the rescue and is transporting the migrants to a safe port in Sicily.
