Rome, 10 June (LaPresse) – ‘I am counting on you to ensure that in the countries where you live, everyone knows that the Church is always ready to do anything out of love, that it is always on the side of the least, the poor, and that it will always defend the sacrosanct right to believe in God, to believe that this life is not at the mercy of the powers of this world, but is permeated by a mysterious meaning.’ These were the words of Pope Leo XIV as he received the papal representatives in audience. ‘Only love,’ he added, ‘is worthy of faith in the face of the suffering of the innocent, of those crucified today, whom many of you know personally because you serve peoples who are victims of war, violence, injustice, or even that false well-being that deceives and disappoints.’
