Rome, June 11 (LaPresse) – The First Criminal Section of the Court of Cassation today rejected the appeal filed by Gun Ufuk, considered one of the smugglers involved in the Cutro shipwreck, thereby upholding the ruling of the Court of Appeal of Catanzaro. The man’s conviction to 20 years in prison and a compensation of 3 million euros to the civil parties has been confirmed. He was found guilty of facilitating illegal immigration, involuntary shipwreck, and causing death as a consequence of another crime — events that led to the drowning of 94 migrants on February 25, 2023.
