Rome, June 16 (LaPresse) – A ban on cell phone use in high schools has been issued in a circular by Italy’s Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara. "Following ministerial note no. 5274 of July 11, 2024, regarding primary and lower secondary education," writes Valditara, "this circular extends the ban on cell phone use to upper secondary school students during teaching activities and, more generally, throughout school hours." "This measure has become urgent in light of the negative effects — widely demonstrated by scientific research — that excessive or improper use of smartphones can have on the health and well-being of adolescents and on their academic performance." "The topic is the focus of an increasing number of studies, and there is growing attention from international organizations and health institutions on the need to adopt policies that address the worrying phenomena these studies highlight," the document states.
