Rome, June 19 (LaPresse) – A new suspect has been named in the murder of Stefania Camboni, the woman stabbed to death in her home in Fregene, on the Roman coast. The suspect is her son, Francesco Violoni, who has been added to the register of suspects by the Civitavecchia prosecutor's office.
Previously, shortly after the body was discovered, the Carabinieri from Ostia's territorial investigative unit arrested Giada Crescenzi, the victim’s daughter-in-law, considered by investigators to be the material perpetrator of the crime.
On Tuesday, Carabinieri from Fregene and the Operational Mobile Unit from Ostia conducted a decisive new search in the area between Via Santa Teresa di Gallura and Via Agropoli, which was closed to traffic all day. During the search on private land, investigators found key evidence: the missing knife from a 'Masterchef' branded block, matching the victim's wounds, a blood-soaked shirt, and Stefania Camboni’s mobile phone.
“We believe the inclusion of Francesco Violoni in the suspect registry is a temporary and precautionary measure and a procedural formality by the Prosecutor’s Office,” said Massimiliano Gabrielli, the lawyer for Camboni’s family, to LaPresse. “The items found yesterday are of unknown ownership, and it is necessary to determine who handled them, including a proper assessment of Francesco’s position and DNA. We were already prepared for this possibility and had previously appointed lawyer Alessandra Guarini for his separate defense. Currently, we are not aware of any incriminating evidence against him.”
