Milan, June 25 (LaPresse) – “I made an appeal on social media because I hoped he would be spotted and return to his family and the community. Around noon, when I was informed that a body matching his description had been found, I had to face reality—until the confirmation came that it was him. This is a tragedy, especially as it is the third suicide our community has witnessed in one week,” said Gabriele Zotti, the mayor of Chiari, to LaPresse, regarding the discovery of the body of 37-year-old Matteo Formenti.
Formenti was a lifeguard at the 'Tintarella di Luna' pool in Castrezzato (Brescia province), where 4-year-old Michael Consolandi had recently drowned. Formenti had been missing since Monday; his body was discovered at the foot of Monte Orfano in a wooded area by some passersby, who then alerted authorities. “These are three separate cases, three different stories, each with its own context. But as a mayor and as a father, I invite everyone to take a moment of reflection and prayer before judging or condemning. Social media played a significant role here—in recent days, I’ve read so many posts saying who should have done what and how. Such words may reach vulnerable individuals in the community,” the mayor added.
Formenti’s family is from Chiari. “He lived with his family in the same neighborhood as me. He always greeted me when we met—he was someone truly present in the community,” the mayor concluded.
