Milan, 30 June (LaPresse) – Two mountaineers who were climbing the ridge connecting the summit of Presolana di Castione to Presolana Occidentale, at an altitude of approximately 2,400 metres, fell this morning in a particularly inaccessible area. The 118 helicopter rescue service was called to the scene and transported the mountain rescue technicians to the site, where they were dropped off in a gully along the normal route to Presolana di Castione. The doctor confirmed the death of one of the two mountaineers, a 67-year-old man. The other climber, aged 66, was assessed, recovered and transported to the Clusone Operations Centre. The technicians from the Clusone Mountain Rescue Station, VI Orobica Delegation, were called at around 11.30 a.m. today, supported by other technicians from various Bergamo Mountain Rescue and Speleological Rescue stations. The operation was made very difficult by the presence of thick fog in some areas. The operation ended in the afternoon with the return of the teams.
