Rome, July 2 (LaPresse) – "To respond concretely to the record heat recorded in recent weeks, the Ministry of Justice, through the Department of Penitentiary Administration (DAP), has initiated the purchase of 1,000 chest freezers to be distributed to prisons across the national territory."
This was announced in a statement by the Ministry located on Via Arenula, explaining that "the initiative was launched as a concrete response to rising temperatures, with the goal of providing relief to the prison population during the summer months."
The measure, "strongly supported by the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, and the Head of the DAP, Stefano Carmine De Michele," is described as "a sign of attention, respect, and sensitivity toward the living conditions of incarcerated individuals, in line with the constitutional principles of humane punishment and the protection of individual dignity."
The chest freezers, the statement concludes, "will allow for better food preservation and access to chilled beverages and goods, helping to improve daily conditions during a period marked by increasingly frequent heatwaves. This measure is part of a broader plan by the Ministry to improve detention conditions and strengthen fundamental rights, including through simple actions with strong human and symbolic impact."
