Milan, July 16 (LaPresse) – Stefano Boeri allegedly used "resolute" and "commanding" tones with Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala the day before the landscape commission voted on his redevelopment project for the former Pirellino building, promoted by Manfredi Catella's Coima, after having already rejected it twice.

"Marinoni is making a mistake," Boeri wrote to the mayor on June 22, 2023, according to messages retrieved from his phone by the financial police. He was referring to the then-president of the commission, now under investigation for corruption. "And not just with us," Boeri added. "If he insists, we risk a breakdown. It’ll be an appeal to the TAR and Catella on his newspapers."

In the chat with Sala, Boeri claimed to have "spoken at length with Giancarlo, Mario, and Cristian," identified by investigators as Urban Planning Councillor Giancarlo Tancredi, former Chief of Staff Mario Vanni, and Milan City Manager Christian Malangone. The latter two are not under investigation in the Milan prosecutor’s probe.

"The last thing I want is to cause you problems," Boeri, now president of Triennale Milano, told the mayor, "but take it as a warning for tomorrow."

Sala replied: "I’m told it’s not just the President. Obviously, I know what I’m being told. And I have to trust Giancarlo’s judgment. In any case, I’ll review it calmly tomorrow morning."

According to investigators, Tancredi also intervened with the commission. On June 21, he wrote to Marinoni:
"I remind you that for tomorrow’s review of the Pirellino project, a positive opinion limited to the plan-volume solution would shield us from attacks—also, obviously, toward me personally from Catella and Boeri. Boeri, of course, has already spoken to the Mayor about the matter. I trust your sensitivity and great skill in managing this opinion. Faced with a positive-but-conditioned opinion, I don't see what they could object to."
