Naples, July 21 (LaPresse) – The symphonic concert conducted by Valery Gergiev, scheduled for Sunday, July 27 at the Royal Palace of Caserta as part of the music festival "Un'estate da Re" (A Summer for Kings), has been cancelled. The decision was communicated by the management of the Royal Palace of Caserta to Scabec, the cultural agency of the Campania Region that organizes the event. The participation of Russian conductor Valery Gergiev sparked controversy due to his close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Yulia Navalnaya, widow of political dissident Alexei Navalny, also spoke out against his presence in Caserta. "The management of the Royal Palace of Caserta has ordered the cancellation of the symphonic concert conducted by Valery Gergiev, scheduled as part of the Un'Estate da Re festival for July 27 in the courtyard of the Vanvitellian complex," stated the Communications Office of the Royal Palace of Caserta in a note, regarding the cancellation of the concert that was to feature the Russian conductor.
