Milan, July 25 (LaPresse) – “More tragedies. Three workers lost their lives after falling from a goods lift at a height of twenty meters in Naples, while a worker in Brescia was crushed by a forklift. While we await details on how these incidents occurred, one thing is certain: the urgent health and safety interventions declared by the government are continuously being postponed and remain mere announcements.” This was stated in a note by Francesca Re David, CGIL’s confederal secretary.
According to the union leader, “resources are needed to guarantee workplace inspections, both fixed and mobile. What is required,” she added, “is a reorganization of inspection functions and legislation to truly qualify companies, strengthening the role of workers’ safety representatives, and investing in facilities and safety measures.”
“If everything is subordinated to not disturbing businesses and cutting public spending, we will continue to mourn lost lives and share the pain of the families,” Re David concluded.
