Florence, 26 July (LaPresse) – A suicide pact because they would no longer be able to cope with the debts caused in part by drug addiction. This is how Marco Vitali, 55, explained to investigators what happened in room 186 of the Ferrucci residence in Prato, where yesterday, Friday 25 July, his partner, Maurizio Drovandi, 52, an employee of the Prato branch of Monte dei Paschi di Siena, was found dead. Vitali, who was found injured, said that they had both decided to take their own lives by cutting their throats. Drovandi's death is believed to have occurred on Wednesday 23 July. The 55-year-old man, who was taken to Santo Stefano hospital, suffered only minor injuries. In a statement, the Prato public prosecutor, Luca Tescaroli, said that the couple had been in a relationship for a decade and that Vitali said that the two had tried to pay off their debts by selling their homes and the bakery he ran, but were unable to do so. Two handwritten notes were found in the room where the tragedy took place, with a message that read: “We decided together. Don't hold a funeral, donate our organs”. Investigators are conducting further investigations with graphological analysis. ‘The investigations are aimed at verifying the cause of death and injury,’ said prosecutor Tescaroli. The investigation has been entrusted to the police's mobile squad. The public prosecutor's office has opened a file for homicide. On Monday 28 July, the autopsy will be carried out.
