Milan, Aug. 11 (LaPresse) – A 58-year-old man has been arrested by the Carabinieri as the suspected arsonist who on Saturday sparked the large fire that affected the districts of Sant’Eusebio and Bosco in Montemiletto, in the province of Avellino, destroying several hectares of forest and about 130 trees in a private olive grove. The man was identified by officers from the Montefusco station, along with the Avellino Group and Forestry Unit, starting from a small car spotted near one of the three ignition points. Surveillance cameras along the route led investigators to the license plate and owner of the vehicle; some frames show him setting fire to roadside scrub. The man, who has minor prior offenses, was found at home and placed under arrest, awaiting a preliminary hearing at the Avellino Court, where he faces charges of forest fire — a crime punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
