Bolzano, Aug. 11 (LaPresse) – Due to extremely high temperatures and the resulting health risk, a red alert has been issued for the Bolzano area, the Adige Valley, and the Bassa Atesina region for Aug. 12 and 13. “In the coming days, tropical air masses will continue to cause very high temperatures, exceeding 37 degrees Celsius.” This was explained by meteorologist Dieter Peterlin of the Meteorology and Avalanche Prevention Office. Given the current situation in the Bolzano area, the Adige Valley, and the Bassa Atesina, where the thermometer does not drop below 20 degrees even at night, the alert level of the Provincial Operations Center will be raised to the highest level, i.e., red. “On Saturday, we raised the alert to the second level, orange,” said Willigis Gallmetzer, director of the Provincial Operations Center. “As this situation has now persisted for three days, we have decided to raise the alert to the first level, red.” This alert level is issued when a risk situation persists, with very high temperatures and insufficient cooling at night in residential areas. “In extreme heat, it is important to stay informed and be prepared. You need to protect yourself and others to avoid negative health effects. This applies not only in the valley, but also in the mountains,” Gallmetzer emphasizes.
