Milan, Aug 30 (LaPresse) – Bad weather has affected several Italian regions from North to South, causing tornadoes, heavy rains, and strong winds that required the intervention of the Fire Brigade. In over 12 hours, more than 200 interventions were carried out for flooding, water damage, torn roofs, and dangerous trees. Yesterday afternoon, a tornado struck the Lecco area, mainly in the municipality of Verderio. Over 25 interventions were carried out in total. During the night, with the improvement in weather conditions, the situation returned to normal. Strong winds and heavy rainfall affected Apulia, particularly in the provinces of Foggia and Barletta, with support units and equipment sent from the Brindisi and Taranto Commands. Over 20 interventions took place in Barletta and 26 in the Foggia area. Since yesterday afternoon, dozens of operations have been carried out in the municipality of Varzo (Verbano Cusio Ossola) due to an intense storm that caused flooding of basement floors and the overflowing of two minor streams; as a precaution, two homes were evacuated. Overnight, operations continued to drain underground premises and remove debris from some roads with earth-moving equipment sent from the Commands of Turin and Novara.
