Rome, Sept. 20 (LaPresse) – A 36-year-old climber died after falling about eighty meters on the Via dei Pacifici route on the southern tower of the Torri di Neva, on the border between Belluno and Trentino. Around 1:15 PM, the Suem Central Office of Pieve di Cadore was contacted by a climber, who called because his climbing partner, who was leading above him, had fallen and he could neither see nor hear him. The Trento Central Office was alerted and, after agreeing to send the helicopter "Falco," the mountain rescue team of Feltre was also called for possible support. Upon approaching the wall, the crew immediately understood the dramatic situation. First, with a 40-meter winch, they hoisted the partner who was waiting at a belay point, who then recounted hearing his friend moving around a probably more difficult passage and then seeing him fall, pass beside him, and disappear from sight. The climber was then left at the Boz Refuge with a nurse. Falco then went back up the wall, where the 36-year-old from Montebelluna (TV), after a fall of about eighty meters, was found lifeless hanging on the rope. The body was recovered and transported to the base camp. After completing the necessary investigations and obtaining the required clearances, the body was taken to the Mezzano Fire Brigade barracks and handed over to the Carabinieri.
