Vatican City (Vatican), 20 Sept. (LaPresse) – Today, there are many ‘countries and peoples in the world who are “hungry and thirsty for justice” because their living conditions are so unfair and inhumane as to be unacceptable.’ For this reason, ‘the exercise of justice’ must be ‘at the service of the people, with an eye to God, so as to fully respect justice, law and the dignity of persons.’ Pope Leo XIV said this during the Jubilee audience for Justice Workers. Provost then stressed that a personal effort is needed ‘to interpret the law in the most humane way possible.’ ‘A state without justice is not a state,’ said the Pope, adding: ‘Justice is the virtue that distributes to each his due. Therefore, it is not human justice that takes man away from the true God.’
