Milan, Oct 8 (LaPresse) – Tod’s S.p.A. is ready to provide all “clarifications to demonstrate our total non-involvement” in the alleged “exploitation of workers by some of its subcontractors,” and “can only reiterate that it complies with all current regulations, including those governing labor relations.” The company, led by Diego and Andrea Della Valle, said this in relation to the investigation into labor exploitation within Chinese-owned workshops, in which the Milan Prosecutor’s Office has requested judicial administration of Tod’s for allegedly facilitating such offenses. “Tod’s inspectors carry out constant checks on the workshops that the company selects and employs,” the statement reads. “These workshops, which are regularly visited by our managers, sign agreements before starting any collaboration with the Group to ensure the quality of the working environment and the conditions of their employees, as well as, of course, compliance with national labor contracts.” The Marche-based luxury group added that “Tod’s factories are regarded as a global benchmark for environmental protection and social services designed to improve the daily lives of our workers. For Tod’s, product quality and quality of working life are both essential values.” The company said it would “review the case documents in the coming days” and expressed “deep disappointment.” “Had we been consulted at the proper time — many months ago — we could have provided all necessary clarifications and clearly explained our production organization,” the statement concludes, “which has always been managed in full compliance with rules and laws.”
