Naples, Oct. 21 (LaPresse) – The Campania Regional Administrative Court (TAR) has upheld the appeal filed by the Campania Region against the national school downsizing plan. Specifically, Palazzo Santa Lucia had appealed the Ministry of Education’s refusal to recalculate the number of school principals and administrative managers for the 2024/25, 2025/26, and 2026/27 school years, in accordance with Law 197/2022 (which introduced the national school system reform known as “resizing”).
The law requires that these figures be determined based on the actual number of enrolled students each year in every region, rather than on statistical forecasts based on the national decline in birth rates.
“This is an extraordinary result in defense of school autonomy and for the schools of Campania, preventing cuts in resources and staff. Great satisfaction for this result, which confirms the Campania Region’s strong commitment to education,” commented Palazzo Santa Lucia, the regional government headquarters, regarding the TAR’s decision.
“The ruling requires reopening dialogue with regional institutions on the issue, taking into account the gap between the actual enrollment data provided by the Regional School Office in Campania and the estimates assumed by the Ministries,” the statement added.
