Rome, 20 Nov. (LaPresse) – "While always respecting judicial decisions, I feel I must express my personal sympathy for the five police officers convicted in the Shalabayeva case. It is an extremely complex case – as demonstrated by both the acquittal by the Perugia Court of Appeal and the request for acquittal by the Florence Public Prosecutor – with unexpected outcomes. All this confirms how difficult it is for those who work for the safety of citizens to carry out their assigned tasks and meet expectations without putting themselves at personal risk. The fact remains that state servants with impressive CVs and a lifetime spent working to uphold the principles of legality and justice have been convicted. For this reason, my hope is that they will be acquitted of all charges in the final instance of judgment'. This was stated by Home Secretary Matteo Piantedosi.
