Parma, 30 November (LaPresse) – Six young people were rescued and taken to hospital last night due to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning in a room attached to a house in Via Righetta, in the municipality of Fabbrico, in the province of Reggio Emilia. This was confirmed by the Carabinieri. The intervention began after midnight, at the request of the medical personnel already on site. A patrol from the Carabinieri of Campagnola Emilia immediately intervened. According to the reconstruction by the military and the Luzzara fire brigade, the poisoning was caused by a charcoal barbecue previously used for cooking and subsequently moved inside the small room belonging to the house to heat the environment. The six young people involved, all Indian citizens residing in the lower Reggio Emilia area, are between 23 and 26 years old. When the Carabinieri arrived, the young people had already been taken to the emergency room of Guastalla Hospital. Subsequently, five of them were transferred to the hospital in Fidenza, in the Parma area, to undergo treatment in a hyperbaric chamber; according to confirmed reports, none of the young people are in danger of losing their lives. The owner of the house, a 58-year-old Indian citizen and father of one of the young people involved, was identified at the scene. The Carabinieri and fire brigade entered the premises to carry out the necessary investigations, confirming the hypothesis that combustion in a confined space was the cause of the carbon monoxide fumes.
