Milan, 27 December (LaPresse) – Among the nine people remanded in custody as part of the operation into the financing of Hamas is Mohammad Mahmoud Ahmad Hannoun, president of the Association of Palestinians in Italy and member of the board of directors of the European Palestinians Conference, who is believed to be not only a member of Hamas but ‘head of the Italian cell of the terrorist organisation’ in his capacity as legal representative of A.B.S.P.P. from 21 September 2001 to 20 March 2018 and, in subsequent years, as de facto administrator of the association; as legal representative of A.B.S.P.P. O.D.V. since its establishment in 2003; de facto administrator of the La Cupola d'Oro Charitable Association, as well as the La Palma Charitable Association, established according to the organisers to ‘continue financing activities despite the measures taken by the financial circuit to prevent suspects from financing terrorist activities’. Hannoun is described as a ‘senior member’ of Hamas and is accused of having paid over 71% of the funds raised for the Palestinian people directly to the terrorist association or other related associations. From 8 October 2001 to the present, and especially following the attack on 7 October, the architect and president of Api is alleged by investigators to have paid, directly or indirectly, over €7 million (€7,288,248.15 to be precise), money that was allegedly raised ‘by diverting these funds from their stated purpose and the real needs of the civilian population of Gaza’. .
