Milan, 2 January (LaPresse) – Two young people injured in Crans-Montana and admitted to Niguarda Hospital in Milan were extubated today. ‘We were able to talk to them, which is wonderful news and lifts our spirits and those of their parents,’ said Franz Wilhelm Baruffaldi Preis, director of the Burn Centre at Niguarda Hospital, during a press conference. The young people admitted to hospital ‘are mostly from Milan, and it was their parents who asked for them to be taken to Niguarda. We are very happy to be able to welcome them,’ explained Baruffaldi Preis. ‘We spent the whole day in the operating theatre trying to repair the damage caused by this terrible accident,’ he added. "One of them underwent major surgery on his arms and hands and will return to the operating theatre tomorrow for coverage of his arms. The other patients will gradually go into the operating theatre for coverage and reconstruction, to try to shorten the tissue repair time so that there are no problems with contamination or infection. The difficult thing today, compared to yesterday, was talking to the parents about what will obviously be a long medical history, in which we will all have to help each other, from psychologists to anaesthetists to plastic surgeons, to allow these young people to return to their families as soon as possible."
