Rome, 26 January. (LaPresse) – Life imprisonment. This is the sentence imposed by the First Court of Assizes of Rome on Gianluca Molinaro, the murderer who, on 4 July 2024, killed Manuela Petrangeli, his ex-partner and mother of his son, with a shotgun in front of a clinic in Via degli Orseolo, in the Portuense district of Rome. During the closing arguments on 25 November, the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office had requested a life sentence with 18 months of daytime isolation. Public Prosecutor Antonella Pandolfi explained that the victim's life “was taken by someone who could not accept the end of a relationship, a prisoner of a retrograde and patriarchal model that considers women to be property”. The investigation was conducted by the Carabinieri and coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Giuseppe Cascini. In her closing arguments, the public prosecutor outlined a picture of increasing violence on the part of Molinaro, consisting of threats, obsessions and persecutory behaviour which, over time, degenerated into femicide. 'For three and a half years, he harboured blind rage and a pathological obsession. He planned the elimination of his son's mother in a cold and lucid manner. His voice messages speak louder than a thousand witnesses,‘ added prosecutor Pandolfi, concluding: ’Molinaro's was not a sudden outburst, but a premeditated execution. It was the chronicle of a death foretold. He described himself as a time bomb: the “problem” to be eliminated, in his words, was Manuela."
