Rome, 2 March (LaPresse) – A vehicle stopped for inspection by a police patrol in the Quarticciolo area of Rome fled the scene, crossing into oncoming traffic and colliding with an oncoming car. Two of the people in the car hit by the fugitives died, while a third was injured. The accident occurred near Via Collatina. During the chase, a second Carabinieri crew joined the police crew, but lost contact with the fleeing vehicle. The police crew remained in pursuit, albeit at a distance, so as not to create any risks. Of the three occupants of the fleeing vehicle, all of South American origin, one was stopped by the officers, while the other two were taken to hospital. Procedures are underway to identify the three fugitives and reconstruct the dynamics of the incident. An initial search of the interior of the fleeing vehicle revealed jammers and screwdrivers used for breaking and entering. The fire brigade and 118 emergency personnel also attended the scene. The three were arrested for vehicular homicide and are also charged with violation of obligations towards officials, officers and agents, resistance, carrying objects suitable for breaking and entering, and continued resistance.
