Rome, 12 March (LaPresse) – Verbal, physical and psychological abuse, harassment and structural violence. In Italy, technical, rehabilitation and prevention healthcare professionals suffer daily assaults, most of the time without making the news. Women suffer the most from this, “which is a real emergency”. This is confirmed by the initial data from the national survey launched by FNO TSRM and PSTRP, the National Federation of Technical, Rehabilitation and Prevention Healthcare Professions. Forty-three per cent of professionals have suffered at least one assault in the last 12 months, and 38.4% have experienced at least one incident during their career. More than 70% of assaults are verbal, while physical violence affects about 1 in 6 professionals. This reality is certainly not confined to hospitals and emergency rooms: professionals who reported having been assaulted are also present in the community, working in nursing homes, rehabilitation centres, private practices, at the homes of those they assist, in schools and during surveillance and monitoring activities.
