Rome, 22 May (LaPresse) – "Late on the evening of Thursday 21 May 2026, Carlo Petrini, founder of Slow Food, passed away at his home in Bra (Cuneo) at the age of 76. The association itself announced this in a statement, emphasising that “from his great vision and love for the common good, for human relationships, for nature and biodiversity, Slow Food (1986), the international Terra Madre network and the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo (2004) were born. He was also co-founder of the Laudato si’ Communities (2017), inspired by Pope Francis’s encyclical.” “He who sows utopia reaps reality,” Carlo Petrini loved to say, summarising his life in this way, convinced that dreams and visions, when they are beautiful, just, capable of engaging others and lived with conviction and passion, can be realised. He knew how to dream and have fun, to build and inspire, towards concrete social redemption, working with people, young people in particular, advocating fraternity, emotional intelligence and austere anarchy,” the statement continues. “His energy, his extraordinary empathy, his drive, and the example of his life will be the force that guides us all,” the statement concludes.
