Rome, 21 Mar. (LaPresse) – ‘Thirty years have passed since Libera and other associations embarked on an important journey of raising awareness and civil mobilisation, until a state law was passed establishing the “National Day of Memory and Commitment in Remembrance of the Victims of the Mafia”, to express due solidarity with the innocent victims killed by the mafia. Every sector has been hit by this scourge: servants of the Republic, women and men who fought to improve society, entrepreneurs and citizens who rejected the blackmail of crime, ordinary people who ended up under the gun of the killers. Their names are part of our collective memory, and it is to them that we renew, first and foremost, our commitment to fight the mafias, starting with the institutions and in our daily lives, overcoming resignation and indifference, which are the allies of the violent and the oppressors’. Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the National Day of Remembrance and Commitment in memory of the victims of the mafias.
