Rome, 6 April (LaPresse) – ‘We will immediately file a request for an abrogative referendum and begin collecting signatures to repeal the Security Decree. A decree that is certainly unconstitutional due to the blatant lack of the requirements of necessity and urgency. A decree-law intervention in penal matters under the banner of penal populism that is unprecedented in its breadth and its obtusely and unreasonably repressive scope’. This was announced by the secretary of +Europa, Riccardo Magi. ‘From the mothers detained with their children, to the outlandish aggravating factors, to the roadblock, to the criminal sanction for passive resistance, to the ban on cannabis light. A lethal blow to the role and dignity of Parliament, which for months debated the bill that the government has now copied with very few changes in the decree issued by the Council of Ministers last Friday. We trust in a jolt of intransigence from the parliament and we are certain that the President of the Republic will point out to the executive the enormous criticalities that this regulatory intervention presents in merit and method from the point of view of constitutional guarantees. But,' Magi concludes, “we are ready to file the request for an abrogative referendum with the Supreme Court in the coming days”.
