Rome, 15 Apr. (LaPresse) – The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has signed the ‘Morandi law’, but has pointed out that there are ‘discriminations’ to be remedied. The law recognises benefits in favour of the victims of harmful events resulting from total or partial collapse of road or motorway infrastructures of national importance, but Mattarella accompanied his signature with a letter to the presidents of the Chambers of Deputies and the Senate and to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. In detail, the Head of State notes ‘points that do not appear to be in line’ with constitutional principles. For example, the interpretation of ‘infrastructure of “national importance” which is not easy’, or ‘the decision to limit benefits to cases of road collapse’. Mattarella goes on to underline other critical issues, such as the ‘unacceptable discrimination’ in the benefits given to the children of married couples compared to those of cohabiting couples or those in civil partnerships, and concludes: ‘I therefore invite you to consider supplementary and corrective measures’.
