Rome, May 8 (LaPresse) – Following a public hearing held yesterday, the Constitutional Court "deliberated in chambers on the constitutional legitimacy issues raised by fourteen judicial authorities, including the Court of Cassation, regarding the repeal of the offense of abuse of office under Law No. 114 of 2024. The Court deemed admissible only the issues raised in reference to obligations stemming from the United Nations Convention against Corruption (the so-called Merida Convention). On the merits, the Court rejected these issues, ruling that the Convention does not impose an obligation to include the offense of abuse of office in national legislation, nor does it prohibit its repeal where already present. The reasoning behind the ruling will be published in the coming weeks," reads a statement from the Constitutional Court’s press office.
