Rome, 9 May (LaPresse) – ‘Only through creative efforts proportionate to the dangers that lie ahead can we preserve the ideal of a strong, just and peaceful Europe, a bastion of hope for future generations.’ These were the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message released by the Quirinale on the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration and the 70th anniversary of the Messina Conference. "If we fail to face the challenges threatening our future with courage, determination and foresight, we risk losing the priceless heritage of rights and values that form the cornerstone of our integration project. Shared prosperity, substantive equality, inviolable freedom, lasting peace and solid democracy, with respect for the environment that surrounds us, are not just ideals to be cherished, but concrete commitments to be renewed with determination," emphasised the Head of State.
