RRome, May 9 (LaPresse) – "Let me recall many names, including those of people my age whom I have sometimes even known. Allow me to mention only three names: that of Sergio Ramelli, for whom we just marked the 50th anniversary of his murder, and those of Fausto and Iaio, two innocent young people from the left, for whom the judiciary has just reopened the possibility of identifying the culprits."
This was the statement made by the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, during his speech at the Chamber of Deputies for the commemoration of the Day of Remembrance, dedicated to the victims of terrorism and massacres.
"You see, they, like many others, have testified that it is possible to die without any fault, simply because one professes certain ideas," La Russa added. "Let us remember them and recognize without reservation their sacrifice and that of many other young people from every political background, who gave their lives for the freedom to express their ideas and the constitutional right to do so."
In Milan, on the monument dedicated to Sergio, it is written: "In the name of a national reconciliation that unites in a single pity all the innocent victims of our history as a warning to future generations." There is therefore no accusation against anyone, but the word pity, to which I would add the word respect, which is due to anyone who professes an idea, even one that does not belong to us.**
"It is thus by remembering all the fallen victims of terrorism, without distinction, that this day conveys a national sentiment of unity, of the strength of democracy, and of the freedom that defeated those who wanted to destroy our community and our belonging to a civil state, founded on freedom. The memory of these days, which repeat every year, is not superfluous, it is not redundant; it is a way to testify that we have not forgotten their sacrifice and that, on the contrary, it is the foundation of our freedom."
