Rome, 12 May (LaPresse) – With Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, ’we shared the commitment that Italy and Greece have always shown for peace, which obviously applies first and foremost to Ukraine, alongside which we have stood from the beginning and will stand until the end. Italy reiterates its support for efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace, which cannot precede guarantees of effective conditions for Kiev.’ These were the words of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the end of the Italy-Greece intergovernmental summit held at Villa Doria Pamphilj in Rome. ‘We are clearly awaiting a clear response from Russia to the request for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, which Ukraine immediately agreed to, just as Ukraine immediately agreed to meet Putin in Istanbul on Thursday, clarifying in a matter of minutes, and contrary to certain propaganda, which of the parties involved in the conflict is certainly in favour of peace and which, once again, is responsible for the war. We are waiting to see what Russia's response will be,’ the prime minister concluded.
