Milan, May 21 (LaPresse) – Promoting the role of nuclear energy to accelerate ecological transition; encouraging the exchange of expertise in using this resource in strategic sectors like medicine and agriculture; and fostering international cooperation as a key tool for sharing cutting-edge knowledge and best practices. These are the main goals of the memorandum of understanding signed today at Palazzo Lombardia by Governor Attilio Fontana and Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
"The agreement, focused on the 'peaceful' (non-military) use of nuclear energy, is unique, as it is the first memorandum the agency has signed at the regional level," stated the regional administration. "This agreement," said President Attilio Fontana, "confirms Lombardy’s leading role in promoting advanced technologies for sustainable development. Today marks the beginning of an important journey, one I believe will help us overcome current challenges and make progress for the good of our country. Nuclear energy is a viable path to support the ecological transition and should be part of a green energy mix. Thanks to this collaboration, we will boost experimentation and research activities that Lombardy is already advancing in this crucial sector."
