Rome, 29 May (LaPresse) – ‘We have learned that the government is asking to include two constitutional reforms in the July programme, namely the separation of careers and the premiership. We believe this is a rush and have already said that we are not willing to accept any compression of time or deadlines, and we have asked the president of the first committee to take immediate action to ensure that what we have unfortunately seen in recent days is not repeated’. These were the words of Chiara Braga, leader of the PD group in the Chamber of Deputies, after the meeting of group leaders. ‘It is clear that after the Security Decree,’ she added, ‘the division between the majority forces has started again, and this worries us even more because the reform of the premiership is another piece in the attack on the balance, the separation of powers, and the checks and balances that calls into question the equilibrium of our democratic institutions. We will be very vigilant.’
