Rome, June 3 (LaPresse) – “The introduction of a guardianship judge in the procedure, whether to oversee the conditions for accessing assisted suicide or to monitor the execution methods, is madness because these functions should be assigned to a multidisciplinary committee with the expertise to make the necessary evaluations.” This is what Democratic Party senator Alfredo Bazoli said in a statement to LaPresse, commenting on the hypothesis raised today by the parliamentary majority regarding the end-of-life bill. “In the case of a guardianship judge,” Bazoli explained, “one would inevitably rely on a court-appointed technical consultant, who would be a doctor, and it is clear that this would not guarantee any uniformity of treatment or conditions. Therefore, it is a proposal completely lacking any reasonableness.”
