Rome, June 25 (LaPresse) – “This goal of raising military spending to 5% of GDP is unrealistic, harmful, and wrong. It's serious that Giorgia Meloni so lightly committed to it. The Spanish Prime Minister showed that it’s possible to say no—Giorgia Meloni never knows how to say no to Donald Trump,” said Democratic Party (PD) leader Elly Schlein during an appearance on Tagadà on La7. “In Parliament, the Prime Minister didn’t tell the country the truth: committing to 5% military spending means spending an additional 445 billion euros by 2035. That could mean the end of the welfare state in Italy.” Meloni claims the spending is “sustainable”? “She can’t do the math. Just look at the numbers without deceiving people. Meloni is already cutting public healthcare without admitting it. She should explain how she plans to have Donald Trump write the next budget law—that’s the real issue,” Schlein concluded.
